Question 1

Is Building 8 the right fit for us?

Accepted Answer

Probably, if data is creating friction in how your business operates. We work with businesses that know something isn't working but aren't always sure where the problem starts. We'll listen to understand your situation first and tell you if we think we can help. If we're not the right fit, we'll tell you that too.

Question 2

We've tried data projects before and they didn't deliver. Why would this be different?

Accepted Answer

Because we start differently. Most projects fail because they jump to a solution before understanding the problem. We begin by listening, mapping where the friction actually is, and validating that our approach will work before asking you to commit to anything significant. We'd rather tell you we can't help than promise something we can't deliver.

Question 3

Do we need to have our data sorted before working with you?

Accepted Answer

No. Most of our clients come to us precisely because their data isn't in order. Getting your data foundations right is often the first thing we work on together. You don't need to have the answers before you reach out.

Question 4

How do you charge and what does commitment look like?

Accepted Answer

We structure engagements in phases so you can assess progress and value at each stage. There are no long-term lock-ins and no hidden costs. Pricing is shaped by the scope and complexity of each engagement and we'll always be clear about what you're committing to before you commit to it.

Question 5

How does an engagement actually start?

Accepted Answer

With a conversation. We listen to understand what you're dealing with, where the friction is, and what you're trying to achieve. From there we run a focused discovery phase before recommending anything or committing to a scope. We never arrive with a pre-built solution.

Question 6

How long does it take to see results?

Accepted Answer

Discovery typically takes one to two weeks. A data lake build runs five to seven weeks. AI prototyping and validation adds another four to eight weeks. We give you a clear picture of what to expect before you commit, and we structure the work so you can see progress at each stage rather than waiting until the end.

Question 7

Do we need to replace our existing systems?

Accepted Answer

No. We work with what you already have. Our job is to connect your systems and make your data useful, not to rip everything out and start again.

Question 8

What does Building 8 actually do day to day?

Accepted Answer

We work alongside your team to understand your data landscape, identify where the problems are, and build practical solutions that your people can actually use. We focus on delivery and outcomes, not presentations and roadmaps.

Question 9

What is a data lake and do we need one?

Accepted Answer

A data lake brings all your business data into one place so it's accessible, consistent, and ready to use. If your teams are working from different versions of the truth, pulling data manually, or struggling to get reliable reporting, a data lake is likely part of the answer. We'll help you work out whether it's the right next step for your specific situation.

Question 10

Can we start with AI before sorting out our data?

Accepted Answer

You can, but we'd advise against it. AI is only as good as the data it runs on. Without clean, reliable foundations, AI projects tend to underdeliver or fail entirely. We help you get the foundations right first so that when AI is introduced, it actually delivers value.

Question 11

Do we need AI expertise in-house to work with you?

Accepted Answer

Not at all. Most of our clients come to us before they've started with AI. We help you understand where you are, what your data situation looks like, and what's actually possible before recommending anything.

Question 12

How do we know if AI is right for our business right now?

Accepted Answer

That's exactly the kind of question we help you answer. Our Data & AI Readiness Assessment is a good starting point. It takes around five minutes and gives you a clear picture of where your business stands and what the realistic next steps are. Or just get in touch and we'll talk it through with you directly.
